When Hull based construction and civil engineer PBS won the contract to repair the Newland Bridge on the A645 which links Drax Power Station and the local community to the motorway network they called on Fairfax Plant Hire to supply all the excavators, dumpers and other plant on the site.
The work involved a major excavation on both sides of the bridge removing a total of 12000 tonnes of soil to relieve pressure on the structure. The bridge was then realigned, jacked up by 3mm and the concrete butress repaired as necessary before LECA lightweight aggregate was used as backfill.
Fairfax supplied 2 Case CX235C excavators to work in tandem at each side of the bridge, 2 Wacker Neuson 8003...8 tonne excavators, 2 new Wacker Neuson 9001...9 tonne dumpers and 2 Wacker Neuson RT82-SC2 trench rollers. The photograoh shows one of the CX235C loading a tipper wagon with the 8003 smaller excavator working in the background.
Work is on schedule and the bridge should be reopened before Christmas.
